Cheap prepaid phones under $100

Prepaid Sim CardNot all of us want or can afford the latest or greatest phone. Or sometimes we just need a backup phone for if we lose, misplace or just run out of charge on our main phone. So with that in mind here’s some of the cheapest prepaid phones on the market as of August 2009. We’ve made sure each of the major carriers have been covered.

A word of warning: most prepaid phones are locked to a certain carrier or even a specific sim card and you’ll have to pay a lot $100+ to get them unlocked. So if you’re not looking to use the sim and just using it as a backup make sure the phone is not sim locked.

Nokia 1680 (Virgin $39)

A very basic phone as you’d expect for the price but amazingly it comes with a camera that can even record video. With almost 17 days standby the battery is sure to last a while between charges. Available from Dick Smith.

Nokia 1208 (Optus $49)

Optus only offer 2 phones under $100 with the other one being $99 so we’ve decided to pick another Nokia. It seems that most of the budget phones are Nokia so what can we do? Mp3 ring tones and a torch is all this phone offers. No camera or radio or any of the other features they manage to pack in to some of the cheap phones.

Nokia 1661 (Vodafone From $69)

This phone comes with an FM radio, built in torch and it can play MP3 ringtones (but no Mp3 player). GSM only as is the 1680. It doesn’t come with a camera. The best price we could find is on the Vodafone website.

LG L7 (Virgin $59)

Incredible value for the price. This phone has an MP3 player, is expandable up to 2GB of memory and comes with a built in camera.  It also has a built in radio. What more could you ask for for under $60.

Telstra T6 ($99)

Telstra don’t offer much in the way of prepaid for under $100 but this phone is quite a beauty. Supporting most of the 3G functions such as video calling and SMS. It also has a 2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, FM radio, bluetooth support and more. A very capable phone for the price.
